Within The Walls of China and Beyond

It's a well-established fact that China is THE place for fashion companies to produce their products. For evidence, one need only travel to a department store to see the plethora of Made in China labels among the racks of designer pieces. But with changes being made within the country itself, many brands are now looking beyond this massive country for less expensive avenues of production. So what country will be the next location du jour for fashion production? And what will China do to keep its competitive edge?

Resort by Roksanda

The more I look at the creations of Roksanda Ilincic,  the more I am awed by her talent. Her pitch perfect use of color, her clean lines, and the type of clothing that harken back to a time gone by yet with a truly modern touch. She is truly the Christian Dior of our generation.

Showcasing her first ever Resort collection, this time for 2014, Roksanda created a 33 look collection filled to the brim with her signature style. The colors were bold on both ends of the spectrum, the cobalts were incredibly shocking and the pastels incredibly subtle.

And I also loved seeing the dashes of architectural shapes within the collection as well. I would walk off the runway with her 1960s swing coats and 1980s strong shoulders. Take a complete look at Roksanda Ilincic's Resort 2014 collection here on Style.com

Can you see the Dior-esque quality to her pieces? Or am I crazy?

Prada ❤ Gatsby

To be honest, I've had these gorgeous Great Gatsby photos for a while now, but I wanted to wait until EVERYONE saw the movie before posting.  But, I think by now, we're safe...

My wonderful friend Alexa, owner of Vipress Designs, made a trek to the Big Apple and kindly took photos of the Great Gatsby exhibit at the Prada flagship store for us!  Everything about these costumes move me: the love and attention brought to each and every piece, the respect shown to the Roaring 1920s, and the boldness of Miuccia Prada to do it and do it right.

Choosing my favorite piece would be like choosing my favorite designer, an impossible to task to behold. But I will mention my favorite element of these pieces, the color!  It takes a true genius to play with a color palette for a period drama and infuse it with hues so incredibly relevant to today. Without the bold blues, quirky oranges, and even the subtle nudes, the flash and shine would be nothing.

So, brava, Ms. Prada!  I expect to be seeing more of your costume design prowess soon!

A Fashionable Fête

It was a fashionable affair last Saturday when the chic ladies and gentlemen of Cincinnati gathered together to celebrate the second anniversary of The AMY KIRCHEN BoutiqueWithout a doubt, AMY KIRCHEN is my favorite Cincinnati designer, so I was very excited to see her pieces up close in all their glory at her High Heels in High Places anniversary party.

And see them I did. Models wore a gorgeous selection of her prêt-à-porter collection, showcasing her knack for subtle coloring and luxe fabrics, and her loyal clientele wore several custom pieces created especially for them by AMY herself. The beauty certainly didn't end there as the best boutique pieces chosen by AMY were also on show, with looks created on mannequins around the store.

Between her custom creations, prêt-à-porter line, and hand-chosen boutique selections, there was fashion all around at this Milford fête... And the cupcakes topped off the night perfectly!

Modern Cleopatra

A style icon known for flame red hair and loving elegance, Jessica Chastain has wowed me like never before at Cannes. She fully channeled modern Cleopatra in two in ivory gowns by Versace Collection and Givenchy respectively, fitting as the second event was the Cleopatra Cocktail Party hosted by Bulgari.

What made her looks so compelling were the simple, yet utterly ornate, Bulgari jewels. The first look saw Jessica wearing an iconic sapphire necklace, once owned and worn quite often by Bulgari fan and Cleopatra herself Elizabeth Taylor. I have read about this piece many times before due to my obsession with this jewelry atelier and it made my heart skip a beat to see it on the red carpet again.

To let her locks do the talking in the second look, Jessica was befitted with one piece: an emerald cocktail ring. An understated flash of color in an otherwise ivory ensemble.

Though I've never really thought about it before, Jessica would actually make a stunning choice as an ambassador for Bulgari. In the vein of Julianne Moore, Miss Chastain has the beauty, both inside and out, to perfectly suit my beloved brand.

Dior @ Cannes

You may have noticed that Ladylike Chic has been taking a little break as of late, but the barrage of ladylike looks have made it impossible not to report. So we're officially back, starting with the first of several looks at the Cannes Film Festival

The sheer quantity of couture and luxury creations showcased during this weeklong festival is enough to make even the jaded fashionista swoon, so you can just imagine what it does to me. Thus I wanted to start off with the stunning creations by the house of Dior

From Oscar winning actresses on the red carpet to the chic elite at the atelier's unveiling of their resort collection, Dior had a major presence this Cannes season. Best dressed in Dior

Nicole Kidman, hands down. She is starting to channel her inner Grace Kelly, just in time for the biopic to be released.

More goodies to come tomorrow!
